I *so* want to learn how to do this. BEAUTIFUL work!!! I noticed that you sketch/draw very well. Do you think it’s possible to be this good if you aren’t the best sketcher/drawing artist? Thanks so much!

Hi Debbie, For me I see cake decorating as an art form, so the ability to draw and paint certainly lends itself to my cake endeavours, however I’ve taught a lot of people who certainly don’t describe themselves as artists, and many who can’t draw more than stick figures, and their cakes were and are beautiful. I think being a visual person is important, but at the end of the day it really comes down to practice. When I compare my work from when I started to now, the difference is night and day, so take a class, and do it as much as you can– bring a cake to every birthday party you go to and you’ll find you’re better than you think. On another note, I almost failed chemistry in high school, and I’m a damn fine baker, so its about finding your strengths and improving what you might not excel at. Also you need the right tools, whether it be baking pans or the right recipe for frosting– and that takes experience, and internet searching! Good Luck!
